A B O U T
Alicia Castillo (b.1997) is a composer and performer of acoustic and electroacoustic music. She enjoys collaborating closely with performers and crafting narrative driven music that explores auditory perception, sound morphology, and relationships between sound and speech.
Her music has been performed at PRISMS New Music Festival and Ben Verdery’s 2022 Masterclass in Maui, where she was invited to perform her original
guitar compositions. Alicia has also premiered new works by Gabriel Bolaños, Carlos Zárate, and Sofía Matus Cancino as a performer. In 2021 she received first place in the Arizona State University Mykytyn Composition Competition and she recently served as the 2022-2023 Composer in Residence for the ASU Wind Ensemble.
Alicia holds dual master's degrees in Composition and Guitar Performance from Arizona State University. She previously received her bachelor’s degree in Music Theory and Composition at ASU and is active throughout the Phoenix valley as a music educator teaching guitar, music theory, songwriting, electronic music, and composition.
